Blizzard defends Diablo 3 real-money auct
Blizzard has revealed that Diablo 3 will have a new auction house feature that will let player buy and sell items with real money. Blizzard executive VP Rob Pardo made the announcement at a recent presentation, explaining that the feature comes in reaction to the thriving black markets that saw people exchanging items for real cash with previous Diablo games. Instead of trying to stop real cash purchases, Diablo 3 embraces it, he explained. "People were going to do it anyway, and this way it's secure," he said, later defending the feature against the suggestion players could spend more time in the auction room than actually playing the game. "As long as players are having fun, whatever they're doing, I consider that a success," he said. Players can list anything from weapons, armour, gold or even characters themselves in an auction house and sell them to other players for real-world moolah. Players will be able to make a limited number of free listing per week, but otherwise Blizzard will charge a small fee and take a cut of the final sale amount. Blizzard also revealed that the game will require a constant online connection to be played.
Racing game genre decline not helped by '
The unfortunate demise of studios such as Black Rock and Bizarre Creations might be an indication of waning interest in the racing game genre. Activision boss Eric Hirshberg made it clear he thinks that a decline in the driving/racing game genre was a key factor in the decision to close the Project Gotham Racing studio, Bizarre Creations. However Jason DeLong, executive producer at EA and current steward for Need for Speed: The Run, has told CVG that enforced 'evolution' of the genre hasn't helped matters."I think one of the issues with racing developers is that they felt that things needed to change in order for things to continue to do well and as a result there's been a lot of quote/unquote 'innovations' in the racing space, which maybe was not necessarily the best focus" said DeLong.Continuing on the NFS veteran said he feels wish fulfilment is a big part of making a good racing game, often with the most successful titles being those that effectively satisfy the player's driving fantasies. "I think at the end of the day a successful racing game is one that makes someone feel like a hero. Being able to pick up a controller, get behind the wheel of a 500 horsepower car that costs $200,000 and just drive it masterfully across an amazing landscape, that is what people want. If you deliver on that promise then I think you're three-quarters of the way there" he added.EA showed off Need for Speed: The Run at E3, it is the first game in the franchise to feature 'out-of-car' action sequences.

Rollercoaster Tycoon rolling to 3DS - fir
Atari/Namco Bandai has confirmed the revival of theme park building sim Roller Coaster Tycoon, which is winging its way to 3DS next year. We remember playing Theme Park for hours on our Super Nintendos, but if you were more into PC gaming in the late '90s you might remember the brilliant Rollercoaster Tycoon. The full 3D theme park sim, which has sold 11 million units since its release in 1999, lets you build a full theme park an almost overwhelming number of options and a deep rollercoaster customisation tool. Then put on your business hat and manage every aspect of your park's finances until you're successful enough to move on to the next country and do it all again. Rollercoaster Tycoon 3D contains a new 'Coaster Story' mode, which promises to "blend together tutorials and park challenges into a cohesive and entertaining narrative".According to Atari: "Choose your own player character and set off on a journey around the world to expand your roller coaster empire. As you progress, you'll unlock tons of unique attractions, themes, amenities and more."The game will also have a 'Park Sandbox' mode which lets you jump in and just build a park. You'll also be able to share your park via the 3DS' "advanced networking capabilities" - whether this means StreetPass and/or full online functionality is unclear. The game's in development at n-Space - the team often responsible for DS versions of blockbuster games such as the Call of Duty series, Goldeneye 007 and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. It's set to launch in a vague '2012'. Check out the first trailer below: Mike Jackson

US Nintendo downloads Let's Golf 3D
This week's US Nintendo downloads list is out and at the top of the menu is a mean game of golf. Gameloft's Let's Golf is clearly a shot at Camelot Software and Sony's Hot Shots Golf (aka Everybody's Golf) - a cartoony, anime-style golf game with over 100 courses and plenty of charm - and it's actually pretty good. Nothing else leaps out at us, but the full list is below. Hit the source link for more info and trailers.Nintendo eShopLet's Golf 3D - Choose from eight customizable characters and play in exotic locations, including the Mayan jungle and a winter wonderland. The 3D visuals will let you view your ball's trajectory like never before. Forza Halo 4 video - Now with Cortana com
You've probably already heard Jeremy Clarkson trying to get his head around Halo 4's Warthog in Forza 4. He was rubbish. He may know his XZ120s from his R3T40s (we made those up) but he clearly didn't know his Halo. So, when it comes to talking Halo in Forza 4's Autovista Mode, Turn 10 has got an alternative and she certainly knows a thing or two about the Warthog. EA 'hopes to find a way' to keep its game
EA has released a statement claiming it hopes to work out an agreement to keep its games on Steam following the removal of a number of its titles in recent months. Yesterday Dragon Age 2 followed Crysis 2 in being removed from Steam, reportedly because the title's latest DLC is being made available to customers in-game rather than directly through Valve's digital store."At EA, we offer our games and content to all major download services including GameStop, Amazon, Direct2Drive and Steam," David DeMartini, EA's senior VP of global e-commerce, told IGN."Unfortunately, Steam has adopted a set of restrictive terms of service which limit how developers interact with customers to sell downloadable content. No other download service has adopted this practice. Consequently some of our games have been removed by Steam. "We hope to work out an agreement to keep our games on Steam," he added.
